I brought warmth and life to my own garden, combining water, planting and play areas to create a garden that was perfect for children and adults.
The wish list
A long narrow garden behind a Victorian house, this space was on four levels with a lot of hard grey landscaping. The garden needed softening, with safe play areas for young children and good spaces for entertaining.
The magic wand
I used the existing levels to create two play- camp areas for the children; one high up and visible and the other secret and connected these two areas by adding a new lawn. I added a water feature to the middle level, creating a focal point and the surrounding borders completely re-planted with year-round planting designed for scent and wildlife interest. At the end of the garden, an existing patio and pergola were enhanced with furniture to create a relaxing area for the adults to enjoy the afternoon sun.
“I learned a lot from working on my own garden and the results are perfect for the varied ways we use the garden.”
